Strength Through Adversity
In the August of 2016, Darren faced something every mountaineer and climber fears…a serious fall, and with it, a life changing injury.
Breaking his back during the accident, Darren had to come to terms with an injury that left him paralysed from the chest down, and threatened to strip away his very sense of personal identity .
Undeterred, he chose to do what felt like the hardest thing, to not give in, and to stay strong in the face of what (at times) felt like overwhelming adversity.
In the years since Darren’s life changed so dramatically, he has blogged actively about his journey, founded the disability sport charity ‘Strength Through Adversity’, and has embarked on a Paralympic career with Great Britain’s Paracanoe programme.
