Now your group has been set up, it’s time to fill in some details. Yay!

Head to the Group page and look for the button with [… More]

Then select [Edit group settings]

You’ll arrive at this page >>

Let’s go through one by one:

Group name
Should be filled in already

Group Type
General

Description
Now copy/paste from the ‘About’ page on another regional YesTribe group, here’s the one for East Midlands. Ensure you change the specific details in the opening paragraph to reflect your locality.

Location
If your regions spans a few counties this could be tricky, but it always helps your group’s visibility to have a location so pick a spot right in the middle of your region, or the biggest central town or city.

Tags
Type in each of the following, clicking the ‘return’ button on your keyboard after each tag.
Nature. Positivity. Support. Camping. Wild camping.

Apps
Leave blank

Linked Pages
At the very least, ensure the SayYesMore page is linked

Colour
Choose your favourite colour! This will theme your group

Web address
Once your group has 25+ members you can choose a customised web address. For example, the YesTribe East Midlands is http://www.facebook.com/groups/The YesTribeEastMidlands. All you need to type in is ‘TheYesTribe{YourGroupName}’ If in doubt ask a core team member to do this, as once selected it can’t be changed for a while! (No pressure!)

Privacy
Select ‘Public’

Hide Group
Choose ‘Visible: Anyone can find this group’

Badges
These are a cool function which recognise founding members, conversation starters and other keen beans in your group :) As admin you have the power to switch these on and off but we tend to keep them all checked. You’ll likely start with just one choice, Founding Member, but as time goes on more badges will come available.

Post topics
Ensure this is checked. It enables you to add tags to different conversations in the group to enable searching, like ‘events’, ‘adventure’, ‘question’

Sections
Social learning units, Mentorship and Instant Games are all examples of additional factors to be added to a group but you don’t need to activate any of them

Membership Approval
Check ‘Only admins and moderators’. This means you’ll need to approve anyone who wishes to join the group.

Membership pre-approvals
You can choose to automatically approve new members who are already members of another group. For now, select [Get Started] > [Groups] > The YesTribe

Membership requests
We don’t require new members to answer these questions but we ask them to ensure they’ve read the group rules, and now and then there’s an interesting answer for why they’ve joined.
Click [Ask questions] > [+ Add a question] > Ignore suggested questions and write ‘Welcome! How did you find out about the YesTribe?’
There may then be an option under Group rules, ask you to select the option for group rules to be shown and agreed to for new members.

Automatic member approvals
These can speed up the approval process and save you some ‘approval time’ as an admin but it’s still in beta, so for now leave all fields blank.

Membership requests from Pages
As you’ll see on the page about Approving New Members we only allow real people into YesTribe groups. All SayYesMore pages are the exception and very infrequently a company with a page may support YesTribe activity, but for now select [Don’t allow Pages to join as group members]

Posting permissions
Admins only.
Please read the page about Posting Permissions

Post approval
Tick the box for [All group posts must be approved by an admin or moderator]

Keywords alerts
This alerts group admins to any entered keywords. We tend to keep this blank but feel free to use it to keep on top of moderating bad language in the group.

Now, click [Save] and you’re almost done!

YesTribe New Group

There are three key steps to setting up a YesTribe/ SayYesMore Facebook group, which ensure the vibe is right and like-minded people join. These are each covered in separate guide pages. Please read them.

  1. Group Rules - a set of rules which all new members need to agree to before joining, and by which any doubtful activity can be marshalled by.

  2. Member Approval - Ensuring that only real humans join the YesTribe.

  3. Post Approval - Group admins must approve all posts before they’re visible.
